The Surrey Eagles played game one of the first round series against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. While the last time these two played, Surrey walked away with the series victory, game one went to the opposition.
Much to the chagrin of fans, Alberni Valley got on the board first with a goal by Wyatt Davis in the game’s first five minutes, which went unmatched by Surrey, who put up 14 shots in comparison to the Bulldogs’ six.
The second period saw a golden opportunity for Alberni, who were given a powerplay after Surrey was given the extra minor on a coincidental play. Caden Tremblay took advantage of the call and lifted the visitors to a 2-0 lead. Yuchan Kong made sure to make Alberni pay for their next penalty and eased fans with a much more manageable 2-1 game. But despite their efforts and leading 35 total shots, Surrey could not manage to even the score and eventually gave rise to a late Bulldogs empty net goal to steal a victory on the road. Surrey will look to even the series tomorrow before entering enemy territory.
