RECAP: Eagles routed by Chiefs in rematch

The Chilliwack Chiefs (12-11-1) came to the Nest to take on the Eagles for the second time this week (2-20-3). The Eagles started off strong, generating good chances early and keeping the puck in Chilliwack’s end. Their pressure paid off on the power play when Nishaan Parmar banged home a rebound after a nice feed from Easton Jacobs.

However, the Chiefs quickly settled in, and their first line took over. Jack Plandowski scored back-to-back goals just a minute apart, and they weren’t done there—Nico Grabas buried another to make it 3-1 heading into the second period.

The second period opened with a slew of chances from Chilliwack, but goaltender Finn Marshall held them off long enough for the Eagles to claw back within one. Max Davidson unleashed a bomb past David Di Girolamo to make it 3-2. That would be as close as Surrey got, though, as the Chiefs’ first line struck again with Plandowski completing the hat trick just past the halfway mark of the period. Minutes later, Darik Olson made it 5-2, and Marshall was pulled after allowing five goals on 28 shots.

Grady Peterson entered the game and made a strong impression, stopping the bleeding for the remainder of the second.

In the third frame, just two minutes in, the Chiefs added another to make it 6-2. Peterson continued to weather the storm before Dustin Renas and A.J. Schaaf extended the lead , adding to there point totals. Surrey generated chances of their own in the third, outshooting the Chiefs 13–9, but Di Girolamo stood tall to close out a 7–2 win for Chilliwack.

The FortisBC Energy Player of the Game went to Max Davidson for his blast in the second. The third star went to A.J. Schaaf, who recorded a goal and an assist. The second star was awarded to Nico Grabas, who put up a goal and three assists, and the first star went to hat-trick hero Jack Plandowski, who also added an assist for a four-point night.

The Eagles are back in action on December 12 against the Nanaimo Clippers. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. At Frank Crane Arena.
