It was Punjabi Night at the Nest this past Friday as the Eagles (1-16-1) took on the Prince George Spruce Kings (9-8-0-0). The energy in the building was strong to start the game, with the first 10 minutes being very competitive as both teams went back and forth. Goaltenders Jaiden Sharma and Colin Reay both had to be sharp early.
At 8:37 of the first period, the Spruce Kings struck first as Marcus Lougheed finally got one past Sharma. Just 16 seconds later, however, the Eagles responded off the stick of Yoon Min Shin, evening the score at one. Lougheed found the back of the net again only a few minutes later, and the Eagles soon found themselves in penalty trouble when Max Davidson took a double-minor for high-sticking. Prince George capitalized, scoring two goals on the ensuing man advantage—one from Ozbej Rep and the other from Kazumo Sasaki.
Surrey headed into the second period down 4–1, and unfortunately for the Eagles, things only got worse. They surrendered three more goals in the frame and were outshot 20–7. The Spruce Kings came out firing, scoring just over two minutes in as captain Carter Hesselgrave found the back of the net. A little over a minute later, Jackson Froysland skated past the Eagles’ defense and beat Sharma over the blocker. PG wasn’t done yet, as Hesselgrave capped off the period with his second goal of the game, making it 7–1 heading into the third.
It was more of the same for the Eagles in the final frame, as they were outshot 23–12. The only goal of the period came off a breakaway from Prince George’s Mason Loewen. The Eagles ultimately fell 8–1. Yoon Min Shin earned Fortis Energy Player of the Game honours. The third star went to Ozbej Rep, the second star to Carter Hesselgrave, and the first star to Marcus Lougheed.
The Eagles are back in action on November 21 against the Langley Rivermen. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
